Engineers without Borders at Oklahoma State University
Constitution
Article I-The Name:
The name of this organization shall be Engineers without
Borders at Oklahoma State University
and shall be referred to as "EWB-OSU."
Article II -Purpose:
The purpose of this organization shall be as follows:

Create a sense of
excitement and enthusiasm about solving technical
development problems within a cultural and social
context by bringing together those who are
interested and encouraging discussion amongst them
to solve the problem together.

Organize project
team(s) to design and implement engineering projects
either locally or internationally.
-
Publicize research
opportunities and encourage students to undertake
research on technical development problems, and to
ensure that the completed research is returned to
the EWB-USA database.

Collaborate with
EWB-USA to ensure the quality and appropriateness of
the engineering package and the end product for the
community
Article III -Officers:
Section 1.
The officers of this organization shall be President,
Vice President, Treasurer, Project Manager, Fundraising
chair, Service Chair,
StuCo Representative and Webmaster. Other officer
position may be added as needed. The line of succession
shall be the order that the officers are discussed in
Article III, section 3.
Section 2.
Qualifications for officers in this organization shall
be -

To support the values
and mission of EWB-USA.

Be aware of the risks
and dangers of the projects in which they are
involved.
-
Realize that they
will have no compensation for themselves or from
their beneficiaries for their participation in such
projects.
-
Work within the
project framework and be an integral part of the
design team. Be responsible for those tasks for
which they have volunteered.
-
Be aware of the
cultural and social implications of the proposed
technological changes brought about by the
implementation of a project.
-
Meet the
qualifications for student officer as set by
Oklahoma
State
University
which are full time student, GPA of at least 2.0, and
in good standing with the organization.
Section 3
Duties of the officers as
stated for each position-

Give reminders of the
meeting time to all members.
President:
-
Responsible for the activities and actions of the organization.

Represent or choose a representative for the organization for any necessary functions.
-
Set the agenda and connected the meetings.
-
Give reminders of the meeting time to all members.
-
Vice President:
-
Assist the President in
any necessary manner profiting the chapter.
-
Preside as President in
the absence of the president.
-
Keep and distribute the
minutes of each meeting.
-
Present the minutes from the previous meeting for approval and revision.
-
File any paperwork with Engineers without Borders-USA or with OSU.
Treasurer:
-
Keep records of the
financial transactions.
-
Disburse funds under
the approval of the advisor and acting President.
-
Update the chapter of
the current financial status, and keep record of
membership.
-
Pays national dues on
time to EWB International.
-
Remain in contact and
keep the account in good standing with EWB
International.
-
File for AFAP, CEAT
Rainy Day, and SGA Co-sponsorship.
Project Manager
-
Complete project
forms for EWB and send them in a timely manner.
-
Set a plan of action
to follow for projects.
-
Encouraged
participation in the projects
-
Organized the team
and communicate with the regularly.
-
Communicating with
the local contacts about the status and development
of the project.
-
Gathered information
on traveling.
-
Establish equipment
and material needs for the project.
Fundraising Chair
-
Coordinates and
organizes fundraising activities, including
publicizing activities when applicable.
-
Creates promotional
material to distribute to potential donors.
-
Corresponds with
corporate sponsors to establish and continue a
working relationship.
Service Chair
-
Coordinates and
organizes local service activities or projects.
-
Keeps track of member
involvement in activities and creates documentation.
-
Publicizes service
activities on campus and in the community.
StuCo Representative
-
Attend ALL CEAT
Student Council meetings.
-
Responsible for
finding a proxy and making sure the proxy attends
meetings if unavailable.
-
Work as many events
as needed to ensure the 50 points required by CEAT
Student Council are earned.
Webmaster:
-
Keep the chapter
website current.
-
Post any
announcement, information, and activities under the
approval of the advisor and the president.
-
Start and end each
meeting according at established time.
-
Keep a record of the
chapters activities.
Section 4
The
elections of this organization shall be the third to
last official meeting of the spring semester.
Nominations for office will be open until the time of
the vote, and a vote shall be cast before the end of the
meeting. In the event that an office is not filled, a
special election may be held throughout the school year.
If an officer becomes unable to fulfill the duties of
office, the officer may resign at the next meeting.
Newly elected officers will perform one meeting
in tandem with the current officers and one meeting on
their own before the end of the spring semester.
If
an officer neglects the duties of office, the matter
must be discussed during the meeting, and a vote to
remove the officer from office shall be taken. The vote
must have a two-thirds majority of those in attendance.
In the event of a tie, the highest officer present may
cast a deciding vote. Neglecting duties is constituted
by missing two consecutive meetings, not fulfilling the
duties as stated in the constitution, or failing to meet
the qualifications as stated in the constitution.
Section 5
This
organization must have at least one advisor. In the
event that an advisor is no longer willing to be apart
of EWB-OSU, the advisor must resign at the next meeting.
The advisor must be from an engineering field or related
area and a full time faculty or staff member. An advisor
must be in attendance at all meetings. Any time the
advisor needs to give a decision to approve or reject an
item, it must be done in a timely manner, and guided the
chapter in decisions, but can not submit a ballot.
The Faculty
Advisor for the student chapter is the university’s
point of contact with EWB-USA, and will support the
student chapter in its project endeavors.
Article IV -Quorum
To hold a meeting there must be at least 50% + 1 of
membership, one officer, and an advisor present.
However, subsequent officers may be counted in
deciding quorum.
Article V -Membership
Each member must have an interest in helping the
community, in technology, and a willingness to fulfill
their assignments. Each student must full fill the
requirements to become a national member, and pay dues
to the Engineers Without Borders at Oklahoma State
University chapter.
Article VI -Dues
The dues will be a percentage of the EWB-USA chapter fee
as set at the beginning of the school year by the
officers and advisor.
Article VII -By-laws
A by-law may be passed at any regular meeting of the
organization by a majority vote of those in attendance
provided a quorum is present.
Article VIII- reports to campus life
office
Section 1
At
the beginning of the fall semester, EWB-OSU, shall
report the name of its officers and advisors to the
Department of Campus Life, and shall promptly report any
changes that occur during the school year.
Section 2
At
the beginning of the fall semester, EWB-OSU will file
with the Department of Campus Life a signed “Affirmation
of Compliance.”
Section 3
The
funds of EWB-OSU will be deposited with the university
banking services, including the OSU Foundation or EWB
International.
These funds will be audited yearly, preferably at
the time a new treasure is elected.
Section 4
It
is understood that failure to submit such materials,
either through continued negligence or willful omission,
may result in suspension of the charter of the
organization by the Committee on Student Organizations.
